GUIDES at The Burrell Collection in Glasgow have turned detective to examine works credited to the French artist Jean-François Millet.

The paintings are being brought together for the first time as the museum prepares a catalogue of Sir William Burrell's collection of 19th-century French art.

Jean-François Millet – Under Investigation will question whether the artist was responsible for all the works credited to him. Fakes began appearing following his death in 1875, with Millet's grandson Jean-Charles Millet and an accomplice, Paul Cazot, jailed for their crimes.

A total of 19 works will be exhibited but it is unclear whether all are authentic. Staff at the Burrell Collection including guide Morna Mather, above, and experts from around the world are examining them.

The exhibition opens today, and findings will be shared in October.
