JUST days after the Material Girl wowed the world at the Super Bowl, Madonna has announced her first-ever performance in Scotland.

The 53-year-old pop legend will perform to more than 67,000 people at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on July 21 as part of her 2012 World Tour.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am – but fans will need to check their bank balance first. Promoter Live Nation Entertainment yesterday confirmed prices start at £45 and go up to £125.

The singer has faced criticism for the cost but, speaking recently to a US magazine, said: "Start saving your pennies now. People spend $300 on crazy things all the time, things like handbags. So work all year, scrape the money together and come to my show. I'm worth it."

Tickets for this summer's forthcoming Stone Roses reunion gigs are priced at £55 while seats at Bob Dylan's Scottish dates last year cost £75.

One fan tweeted yesterday: "Madonna, your ticket prices are almost as big as your ego."

Her last tour broke records for the highest grossing tour ever by a solo artist – although Paul McCartney, Barbara Streisand and Elton John have all charged more for tickets.

The shows, which start in Tel Aviv, Israel, on May 29, are part of her ninth tour. Despite marrying Guy Ritchie in Scotland in 2000 – the day after their son Rocco was christened at Dornoch Cathedral – the star has never performed north of the Border.

The Murrayfield announcement comes hot on the heels of the seven-time Grammy winner's half-time Super Bowl performance to more than 114 million viewers.

The Edinburgh date is one of 26 European cities the singer will stop at including London – the only other UK date – on July 17, Paris, Milan and Berlin. The tour will also take her to Australia for the first time in more than 20 years.

Tour promoter Arthur Fogel said: "Madonna's track record as a world-class entertainer and touring artist speaks for itself. We are thrilled to have her back on the road and know her fans feel the same."
