PARTICK Thistle will put a #500,000 value on goalkeeper Craig Nelson
if he moves south. The out-of-contract player has been training with
Crystal Palace and yesterday Partick manager John Lambie gave them the
go-ahead to play him today as a trialist.
Said Lambie: ''I have told them he can play, as long as they insure
him. He is under freedom of contract, but it is time the SFA and the
Scottish League got together to sort out the situation.
''We have not yet talked cash with Crystal Palace as they have not yet
said if they want to sign Nelson. But I notice that a reserve keeper in
England was sold recently for #300,000. Nelson is only 22, and has the
potential to go right at the top.''
Partick tonight open a three match tour in Ireland and l9-year-old
Kevin Budd will be in goal.
Thistle also announced yesterday that their main sponsors, Texstyle
World, are involved in an improved l2-month agreement of #l00,000, plus
other incentives. Two other sponsorship deals are expected to be
clinched early in the season, and the new 6250 seated stand at Firhill
will be opened on October 8 against Hearts.
* FALKIRK have joined the chase for striker John Henry, of Clydebank,
who has spent the past week training in England with Bradford.
* MEADOWBANK Thistle and Arbroath yesterday carried out a player swap,
with striker Stuart Sorbie moving to the Edinburgh club in exchange for
Malcolm Murray.
* TWO experienced Clyde defenders are quitting the game. Ross
McFarlane and Steve Tennent are both giving up because of pressure of
business.
* DUNFERMLINE'S 31-year-old midfielder Craig Robertson yesterday
signed a new two-year contract with the East End Park club.
* FORMER Scottish youth captain Scott Anderson is joining Ipswich for
trials next week.
Anderson, 19, had spells with Rangers and St Johnstone but his career
was hampered by injuries. The youngster will guest for Deveronvale
against Hibs today.
* GERMAN striker Jurgen Klinsmann became Tottenham's second glamour
signing of the week when he was snapped up yesterday for #2m from
Monaco.
Klinsmann, 30, suffered the disappointment of a World Cup
quarter-final defeat by Bulgaria but four years earlier he helped his
country lift the World Cup.
Tottenham had earlier signed Ilie Dumitrescu from Steaua Bucharest for
#2.6m.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
