Scotland Under-18s 10,
Scottish Schools 36
THE roof fell inon the youth side in the second half when the
ebullient schools team ran in four superb tries. It was the Under-18s'
first outing of the season and does not auger well for the
representative games ahead -- the first being against Spain in Madrid on
Saturday.
The youths side, having kept the scores level at 10-10 at the
interval, began the second half looking as though they had tightened up
their act, but neither Gerry Tosh, nor Chris Richards twice, could
convert penalties.
The final 15 minutes belonged to the effervescent Schools' team,
thanks to Heriot's flanker Graham Dall.
Winger Craig Brims, of Fettes, collected a hat trick of tries in an
11-minute spell, and Dall had a hand in them all.
Skipper Cameron Murray converted Brims' second and third scores, as
well as that of Chris Docherty.
In just two minutes, Colin MacRobert showed great pace as he burst
between Ken Baillie and Danny Ablett to gather the ball which the full
back had sadly misjudged as it bounced on his twenty-two. MacRobert went
between the posts leaving Tosh the conversion for the youths.
Dall's talents became obvious as early as six minutes when he appeared
on the right wing to brush past Mike Parsons for an unconverted try. The
schools leapt ahead after 12 minutes when Ablett got over the line.
Again there was no conversion and Tosh levelled the scores with a
penalty.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
