GLASGOW have recalled Walter Malcolm as wing forward for the McEwan's

district championship match against North and Midlands at Burnbrae

tomorrow, only four days before his thirty-second birthday. But a

flanker of even higher repute, Ian Smith, despite his international

standing, cannot break back into the Exiles' XV to meet the South at

Mansfield Park the same day.

Malcolm will be making his twentieth district appearance as Glasgow

attempt to rescue a championship season that peaked with victory over

the South on Saturday, but slipped in defeat by the Exiles at Richmond

four days later. He will be at blind side, and his Glasgow

High/Kelvinside partner, Fergus Wallace, Glasgow's captain, switches to

No.8.

Old Anniesland colleagues would vouch that Malcolm has been playing as

well as ever for GHK this season.

Brian Robertson, Stirling County's tight-head prop, who missed

Wednesday's defeat because of a shoulder injury, also returns for

Glasgow, allowing Alan Watt to switch back to the left in place of John

Gibson. The GHK international prop, however, is doubtful because of the

knee injury that forced him to retire in the second half of the Richmond

match, and Gibson stands by for another recall.

After the victory over Glasgow, the Exiles have named an unchanged

team even though Smith, Scotland's first-choice open-side flanker

throughout the past year, is available after the shoulder injury that

forced him to miss the Richmond match. The Gloucester captain, who was

to have led the Exiles on Wednesday, finds a niche only as a

replacement.

Tony Stanger, Hawick's international wing, has dropped out of the

South XV because of his father's death. Gala's Mark Moncrieff fills the

gap.

* GLASGOW'S XV for the under-21 championship match against North and

Midlands, also at Burnbrae tomorrow (11am), shows one change from the

team who beat the Exiles 24-8 on Wednesday. Stuart Muirhead, the

Kilmarnock centre who dropped out on the morning of the game, returns in

place of Derek Muir.

Jeff Kayne, Scottish Schools' scrum half two year ago, while he was at

Hutchesons', returns to the Exiles' team for the under-21 match against

the South at Kelso this evening.
