SCOTLAND fell to a controversial 3-2 defeat by Finland in the UEFA under-19 championships in Austria last night after Motherwell's David Clarkson was harshly sent off midway through the first half.

Clarkson saw red for a strong tackle that was at most a booking and the

10-man Scots quickly fell two behind. Motherwell's Paul Quinn then pulled one back with a header, only for the Finns to regain their two-goal advantage.

Ross Wallace, of Celtic, finished the scoring with a superb free-kick and the Scotland coach, Ross Mathie, said: ''We all thought David's tackle was a good one, but we have to accept the decision. The lads put in a lot of work.''
