Fetching #300 on vinyl, but released on CD at a tenner, this 1962 session not only supports all claims for Hayes' massive individual abilities, but with trumpeter Jimmy Deuchar and pianist Gordon Beck matching Hayes' exuberant tenor, confirms that his band was first class too. Prime hard bop from a Brit who made Americans think he was one of theirs.
