A mid-innings team talk provided the impetus for Beazer Clydesdale to kick-start their season at the expense of Ayr.

By the time Greig Williamson gathered his players around him, Clydesdale had failed to cash in on the perfect start which saw Ian Stanger remove Scotland opener Bruce Patterson in the first over. Instead Ayr's professional Kevin Roberts was beginning to cut loose. The Titwood attack's response saw Ayr reduced from 120-1 to 172 all out.

Amir Hanif made the vital breakthrough when he had Roberts caught behind for 76, one of six catches for young keeper Mark Kernaghan. The Pakistani pro-

fessional went on to return five for 53. Williamson to played the major role with the bat with a couple of 6s in his 69, while Stanger completed was not out on 39.

Ayr's defeat left Aberdeenshire with the only 100% record, the Dons, for whom Garth Nottle starred with bat (45) and ball (3-22), completing a four-wicket win at Stirling.

Ferguslie recruit Alan Burgess began to repay skipper Stuart Kennedy's faith with a winning six for 23 haul against Edinburgh Accies, all out for 87. Kennedy rescued the former Scotland under-19 seamer from the wilderness at Clydesdale.

Arbroath had a hard-earned win at Prestwick where Kevin Ritchie's half-century and Ben McGill's wickets did the damage, while Greenock dominated Uddingston but failed to take the final wicket.
