When his first Postcards arrived in the land of pop from East Kilbride, it seemed as if the youthful leader of Aztec Camera had invented a new way of sequencing chords to create his achingly beautiful songs. The best part of 20 years later, and reverting to his given name (although he and ''Aztec Camera'' have long been synonymous), his performance in the Flux season left one wondering why he is not Scotland's biggest star. A suite of new songs included corkers like River of Brightness, and a final solo encore that was every bit the match of first-album favourites Birth of the True and Down the Dip, both of which he popularly included. There was enough of all that to satisfy the slapheads in the crowd, joining in the ''high land, hard rain'' coda on The Boy Wonders, and swooning, as did we all, to a soulful How Men Are, accompanied only by pianist Mark Edwards. A complete delight.
