SCHOOLCHILDREN can now study the Indian tabla drum for music exams instead of more conventional instruments, it was revealed yesterday. Glasgow City Council artist-in-residence Vijay Kangutkar, originally from Bombay, gives a lesson to Ian Mason 10, on the tabla drum, which has been approved on the list of musical instruments pupils can play in standard grade practical exams. He also teaches youngsters from ten primary and secondary schools in the area.
