THE Scottish FA have set a new date for their continuing investigation of scenes at full-time during the last meeting of the Old Firm.

With the new season fast approaching, both Celtic and Rangers will find that they are still involved in problems from the last season. The disciplinary committee will meet on Monday, July 28, and the secretaries of both clubs have been told to attend.

The meeting had previously been scheduled for May, but Rangers secretary Campbell Ogilvie was unable to attend, and Celtic secretary Dominic Kean had by then left the club.

Celtic's Italian winger, Paolo Di Canio, was also reported by the referee, who mentioned the action of Rangers' players in celebrating at the end of the game.

Former Celtic manager Tommy Burns is due to appear at a meeting of the general purposes committee on Tuesday, July 8. Although he is now with Newcastle United, he faces SFA action following comments after an Old Firm game last January.

q JOHN Toshack yesterday signed a two-year contract to become the new coach of Turkish club Besiktas.

The former Liverpool striker, who has had a long managerial career in Spain, resigned as coach of Spanish first division club Deportivo La Coruna in February after an unsuccessful run in the league and cup.

q CHRIS Doig, a 16-year-old Dumfries schoolboy, is joining Nottingham Forest.The youngest player ever to turn out for Queen of the South last season, he starts at the City Ground next week.

The schoolboy international full back will earn Queens a five-figure fee and further payments if he makes the grade at Nottingham.

q STIRLING Albion's Gretar Hjartarsson is set to sign a new deal. The 19-year-old Icelander will become the first player to commit himself to Albion, who have 13 out-of-contract players.
