POLICE were last night trying to establish the events leading up to the death of an Edinburgh woman, whose body was found on the southbound carriageway of the A90, between the Forth road bridge and the capital early on Sunday morning.

She was found by a motorist, who believed his car had struck her. But last night it was still not clear whether Mrs Alexandrina Gray, 57, from Sighthill, died as a result of impact from a car or had previously been injured in some other way

A police spokesman said foul play could not be ruled out until they had more information.

''We are anxious to discover what Mrs Gray was doing in the hours leading to this tragedy,'' the spokesman said. ''We also want to discover how she came to be on the outskirts of the city at that time of night.''

Mrs Gray, a mother of two, was seen travelling by bus into the Gorgie area of Edinburgh at about 3.45pm on Saturday. It is believed she may have been drinking in Gorgie at night.

Witnesses were also being sought by police last night, after 16-year-old Damian McGuigan, of Inglewood Street, Craigshill, Livingston, was involved in an accident with a car as he crossed the road at the town's Peel roundabout.

He was critically ill in Edinburgh's Western General Hospital last night.

Fife Police confirmed yesterday, that a body found near the Kirkcaldy to Dundee road, on May 7, was that of missing Glenrothes man Robert Porter.

A spokesman said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
