SUNDAY night's concert from the Scottish Bach Consort was dominated by the music of Antonio Vivaldi. Programming four works by one composer risks losing the audience's attention, but this selection of violin concerti for one, two, three, or four soloists offered plenty of variety, writes Elizabeth Clark.

Leader John Doig was first to make a move to centre stage with his fresh, vibrant interpretation of the Violin Concerto in A Minor, which caught the melodic and rhythmic nuances of the music.

He and his Scottish Opera colleague, Angus Ramsay, performed the Double Concerto in A Minor. This well-executed performance would have benefited from the two facing each other rather than standing side by side.

Next and most impressive came Melissa Forshaw, who has just won a place at the Julliard School in New York. Judging by this performance, she's headed for a great solo career. Finally, RSAMD student Feargus Hetherington completed an accomplished group of fiddlers for the Concerto for Four Violins in B Minor.

Prior to the Vivaldi feast, the SBC showcased young clarinetist Mhairi Milne, performing a delightful Tartini concertino.

Throughout the four movements Milne demonstrated a true affinity with her instrument, offering a wide spectrum of dynamic colour and a sensitive touch to ornamentation. One to look out for.
