EDINBURGH City Council's ruling Labour group last night launched its own investigation into the case of Councillor David Brown, who was found last week to have seriously breached the code of conduct for councillors.

It agreed that chief whip Councillor Brian Weddell should investigate and take ''appropriate action''.

Councillor Brown, who was present, has declined to comment on the findings made against him, He would say only that he was ''quite happy'' with the group's handling of the case. An inquiry over his conduct involving the allocation of a council house, by the authority's monitoring officer, found that Councillor Brown had breached the councillors' code and the Nolan Report standards.
