Business is booming in Tayside with more than one new firm being set up every day, according to the latest figures from Scottish Enterprise. A network of advice shops has doubled the area's business birth rate with more than 432 firms launched in the last year.

The business shops, set up in April 1996, are a ''single door'' source of advice, information and training. The average turnover of start-up businesses has also risen, from #15,000 two years ago to #28,000 now. Scottish Enterprise Tayside chairman Ian McMillan said: ''The picture which emerges from the end of year report is a very encouraging one.''
