brewery giant Belhaven yesterday announced a #5m investment which will create 40 new jobs with 200 more in the pipeline. The new enterprise, to be known as Belhaven North, was launched in Aberdeen.

The siting of the company's first distribution depot in the area is designed to provide a faster and more efficient localised service to customers. The investment, spread over the next five years, follows a #1m investment last year when it bought its first two pubs in Aberdeen. Belhaven managing director Stuart Ross said: ''While some of our competitors may chose to save costs, it is Belhaven's policy to put the emphasis on service first and cost second.''
