Dumfries may be short of accommodation, but it is an ideal base, in terms of high quality forest stages, for the RSAC Scottish Rally on June 5 and 6.

From a starting control at the Whitesands, Friday's route will head for the forests around the Tweed Valley, Craik and Eskdalemuir. Saturday's stages will include forests in Dumfries and Galloway as far west as Glentrool. To boost the number of ''individual'' rounds in the Mobil 1 British Rally Championship, the organisers are making each day of a two-day event count as a separate rally.

For the Mobil 1 drivers, the Scottish will follow that pattern.

However, the event also counts towards the Scottish Rally Championship. And there are three separate smaller one-day rallies within the main competition: the Scottish Historic Rally on Friday, the National Rally and the Formula 1400 Rally, start time 5.30am, on Saturday.
