LOS ANGELES: The arraignment of British rock star George Michael on a charge of lewd conduct was postponed for 10 days yesterday so that prosecution and defense lawyers could review the case further.

The 34-year-old singer was arrested on April 7 after undercover police officers allegedly watched him ''engaging in a lewd act'' on his own in a public toilet in a Beverly Hills park.

Michael's arraignment was due to have been held on Tuesday morning, but instead Beverly Hills Municipal Court Judge Charles Rubin huddled in his chambers with the prosecutor, Deputy District Attorney Kathy Solorzano and the singer's defense attorney, Ira Reiner.

The three then had a private sidebar meeting at the judge's bench in the afternoon, after which Rubin announced he was postponing the matter until May 15 so that the lawyers could further review the case.

Michael was not in court.
