BALLANTRAE Boy represented a Scottish connection when landing a gamble at Musselburgh yesterday.

Back down to 7-4 favourite, the Renfrewshire runner is trained by Jim Goldie, bred by Ayr businessman Jim McGee, and ridden by Lanarkshire's John McAuley.

The jockey kept a cool head when Bowcliffe Grange blazed the trail and produced his mount well inside the final furlong to score going away.

''He will run at Hamilton and, if we are thinking of being greedy, he may go again at Carlisle on Friday,'' said Goldie.

Lindsay Charnock knows the tight turns of Musselburgh better than most, and the jockey recorded a double on Dally Boy and Genuine John.

Dally Boy landed the long-distance event for Tim Easterby, while Charnock was seen at his best when hugging the inside rails all the way on Genuine John for John Parkes' last.
