DOUGLAS Lockhart dashed from Oxford to Chester-le-Street yesterday after answering an SOS from Scotland coach Jim Love.

Captain George Salmond looks certain to miss today's Benson & Hedges Cup clash with Durham because of a torn groin muscle, and Love is banking on Lockhart to provide some solidity to his batting line-up.

Love explained: ''Dougie's been playing first-class cricket for Oxford University against high quality county attacks. That should put him in a better position to deal with the Durham bowlers.''

In the wake of defeats by Yorkshire and Worcestershire, Love's side are determined to finish their last B&H campaign with success against Durham and Derbyshire at Forfar on Friday. The coach said: ''We have been putting together spells of very good cricket which are making the counties sit up and think a bit. The aim is to make these more frequent and longer.''

Meanwhile, another player was last night waiting for the green light to fly to Scotland and come to the rescue of Penicuik.

The Border League club found themselves without a pro when Adrian Murphy was sent back to Barbados by immigration officials after arriving in the UK without the correct paperwork.

Now a delighted Pakistan internationalist Sajid Ali is ready to fill the breach, after giving up hope of finding a team to play for this season.
