WITH less than four weeks to go, many of today's games will go a long way to settling several promotion and relegation tussles.

After reaching the final of the OVD Cup and the Whyte and Mackay Cup, Pollok turn their attention to the Reebok Premier League title when they meet Petershill at Newlandsfield Park.

With only four league games left, Pollok are in pole position, a point ahead of nearest challengers Maryhill, and a game in hand. After today, Pollok still have Blantyre Vics, Neilston, and Arthurlie to play in the league - and need maximum points to secure the title.

Manager Alan Maitland has a hard job of restoring confidence in the Maryhill ranks after last week's defeat but they will not give up their title easily and will be looking for a win over Blantyre Vics.

Arthurlie's title aspirations took a dent in midweek when they went down 4-1 to Benburb but they came back with a 5-0 win over Shettleston which kept them on the fringe of the title race. Today they travel to meet Larkhall Thistle, who are deep in relegation trouble.

In the Reebok First Division, Cambuslang, Rob Roy, Glencairn, and Shotts are all in contention for the three promotion places. Only one point separates leaders Cambuslang, who meet Cumbernauld today, and second-placed Rob Roy. Although Shotts trail in fourth, they have four games in hand.

Greenock, St Roch's, and Carluke set the pace in the Reebok Second Division with all three looking promotion candidates.

The position at the top of the Ayrshire First Division is equally tight, with Cumnock nine points in front of Auchinleck, who have four games in hand. Talbot, faced with four games in six days, meet Irvine Meadow, who need to take a point if they are to ease their relegation problems.
