Jobless chef Ian Gallacher, 22, of Garvald Street, Greenock, who bought a 16-year-old girl a carry-out then raped her on a railway bridge, was jailed for five years at the High Court in Kilmarnock, yesterday.

Gallacher admitted raping the girl on May 31 last year, after they met when she asked him to buy alcohol for her and her friends. The pair drank together and kissed before he lured her to a railway footbridge in Largs, where he grabbed her throat and threatened to kill her before ordering her to lie down. After the attack, Gallacher told his friend, who had been waiting at the station, and they fled.
