HEWDEN Stuart chief executive Alistair Napier received a total remuneration package of #255,100 for the 10-and-a-half months he was on the board the plant hire company.

The annual report discloses that he was paid more than chairman Sandy Findlay, as he had a bonus of #65,573. In addition, Napier has been granted options over 260,000 shares exercisable from July 2000 at a price of 149p compared with the current Hewden share price of 194.5p.

Finance director Alastair Deakin explained that Glasgow-based Hewden had to pay a British rather than a Scottish salary to Napier to attract the right man for the job.
