A BUSINESS plan for building a replacement for Glasgow Western Infirmary on the Gartnavel Hospital site has been put on ice pending the re-organisation of acute hospital services north of the Clyde.

A top-level meeting of officials from the West Glasgow Hospitals, Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Hospital trusts, and Greater Glasgow Health Board, begins tomorrow to sort out which services will be provided where when the three trusts are combined.

The West Glasgow trust, which runs the Western and Gartnavel General, was told yesterday by medical director Dr Adam Bryson: ''Every step in the process of developing a business case is beset by alternatives and options which make the development of coherent plans impossible.''
