Your leading article (May 9) accusing Glasgow's city fathers - and the huge number of protesters - of hypocrisy in banning the proposed SECC exhibition of erotica seems to us more than a little hard to understand.

Would it really be preferable to turn a blind eye to the sex industry, ''recognising its scale and influence'' - and then wring our hands when the next woman is raped, or the next child sexually assaulted and murdered?

Did somebody mention hypocrisy?
