The run-in to the end of the season season is likely to be overshadowed by indiscipline.
An Oban Celtic player, recently returned from a four-year ban which was reduced to one year, has been ordered off and will now face the wrath of the game's disciplinary beaks. They are likely to throw the book at Oban Celtic's teenager Allan Duffy, sent off along with his team-mate Scott MacCallum (15) and Inveraray's Darren Currie in a league match last weekend. Duffy, his brother David, and father Robert had their four-year bans reduced to a year on appeal at the beginning of March.
The Oban youngster could well be the second player this season to face the ultimate sanction of a permanent ban.
Meanwhile, young players in Glasgow are being offered the opportunity to attend a major cup final for the first time when the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup final takes place at Lochinch, Pollock Park today.
Jordanhill School will play Oban High School in a MacPherson Cup tie at 11am and then at 1pm, Bearsden and Milngavie, one of the new teams to emerge thanks to the Glasgow Shinty Initiative, will meet Inveraray in an under-12 match. The players are then invited to attend the main action, the Glasgow Celtic Society Cup final between Inveraray and Glenorchy which starts at 2pm. The Glen have never won shinty's oldest competition. Inveraray are going for their third win in four years and the final offers both clubs a welcome break from the battle to beat the drop from the Premier League. Ironically, they could both meet again next week in a league match to settle the relegation issue.
The Camanachd Association's Primary Schools League reaches its climax today with the National Playing Fields Association-sponsored finals being held at Drumnadrochit. Nearly 60 teams from throughout the country have battled their way through to the final stages. Nine area winners compete today for the title of National Local League Champions, starting at 11am.
