THERE have been only five previous finals, plus the two replays of 1903 played at Celtic Park. Hibernian beat Celtic 1-0 there in 1902. It became a home match for Celtic when the SFA moved the final across the city following the disaster at Ibrox during the Scotland-England international three weeks earlier.
Rangers beat Hearts 2-0, after 1-1 and 0-0 draws, the following year. In 1913, Falkirk beat Raith Rovers 2-0 and in 1921 Partick Thistle beat Rangers 1-0. The last final held there saw Rangers beat Aberdeen 2-1 in 1993.

qIT was common in the early years for the incumbent SFA president to referee the cup final. Eleven presidents controlled finals, the last in 1892.

qRANGERS' 1992 winning team contained only four Scottish born players - David Robertson, John Brown, Ian Durrant and Ally McCoist.
Andy Goram and Stuart McCall were English-born Scottish internationalists, and Richard Gough a Swedish-born Scottish internationalist.
Gary Stevens, Nigel Spackman, Mark Hateley and Dale Gordon were born in England, and Alexei Mikhailitchenko was from the Ukraine. Even the substitute, Paul Rideout, was English.
qGARY Locke was the youngest 20th century cup final captain when he led Hearts in the 1996 final. He was 20 and 337 days old.
qRANGERS players Ian Ferguson (St Mirren), Alex Clelland (Dundee United), and Gordan Petric (Dundee United) have Scottish Cup winners' medals with two different clubs.
qDAVE McPherson is the only member of the Tynecastle squad to have a winners' medal. He was in the Rangers team which beat Aberdeen at Celtic Park in 1993.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
