AIN'T IT NICE? - THE RECORDINGS OF ALEX HILL (TIMELESS HISTORICAL,

CBC1-050 JAZZ)

Alex Hill, who died at the age of 30 in 1937, was a respected pianist as well as the prolific composer and arranger of many a jazz classic. Although forgotten over the last 60 years, Hill is finally winning some recognition as Timeless Historical releases this CD of tracks which feature his playing. A second CD - comprising Hill numbers and arrangements as performed by such illustrious figures as Ellington, Armstrong and Clarence Williams - will follow. Highlights of this volume include Shake That Jelly Roll (played by Junie C Cobb and his Grains of Corn), the Apex Club numbers and a famous session with the Eddie Condon band.
