ST JOHNSTONE have put midfielder Paul Kane on a new two-year deal - as a player with youth coaching duties.

Manager Paul Sturrock was delighted the former Hibernian, Oldam, and Aberdeen player's experience would be used to help to nurture teenage talent at McDiarmid Park.

Kane said: ''I was pleasantly surprised when Saints mentioned the possibility of coaching duties.

''Playing first-team football will still be my priority, but the manager pointed out he began his coaching career while he was still a player at Tannadice.

''I'm looking forward to combining both jobs. I should have the best of both worlds.''
