Sandra Watt is the

latest Scottish player to suffer an injury blow as the Scottish squad begins to intensify their preparations for the Commonwealth Games.

The Innerleithen player has injured a foot in training and she has been advised her to keep her foot in plaster for at least a week as a precautionary measure.

Watt, who in partnership with Elinor Allen, has risen to No.13 in the world in the women's doubles, will miss a trip to the French Olympic training camp in Paris next week as well as the US Open which is to be held in early June.

Her coach Christine Black is reasonably confident that the problem will clear up with some rest.

However she admitted: ''It is obviously very disappointing for Sandra to miss out on these trips but we do not think that it is too serious.''

Also missing will be Scotland's No.1 singles player Anne Gibson, who is moving house, and Watt's partner Elinor

Middlemiss, who is

resting an arm strain.

Eleven players will be leaving today to make the trip to Paris and will take part in a tournament on May 30 and 31.

These players include top men Bruce Flockhart, Kenny Middlemiss, Russell Hogg and Craig Robertson as well as Kirsteen McEwan, Robert Blair, Mark McKay, Fiona and Kirsty Sneddon, Katharine

Graham and Carole

Tedman.

The younger players will have the chance to stake their claim for a place in the party going to the Malaysian Open next month.
