JIM Goldie, currently enjoying a flying start to the Flat season, switches his attentions back to National Hunt scene at Uttoxeter today.

The Uplawmoor trainer has dispatched Master Hyde and Teejay'n'Aitch from Renfrewshire to the course which is located a few miles from Stoke-on-Trent.

Both horses face stiff opposition but are capable of going close if reproducing their best.

As the 1997-98 jumping season moves into its final week, Lucinda Russell is another Scottish trainer trying to keep things going right until the curtain comes down at Market Rasen on Saturday night.

Russell's Milnathort string has not been firing on all cylinders since midwinter, but the better ground should see her notching a winner or two yet. She is represented at Cartmel today by Two For One in the novice chase and Uncle Bert in the amateur riders handicap chase.

Two For One has the assistance of leading amateur Mark Bradburne and is much better than his bare form figures suggest.

Uncle Bert is partnered by Clive Storey and could spring a surprise in a race won 12 months ago by Russell with her stable stalwart Fiveleigh Builds.

Meanwhile, along with neighbouring trainer Dorothy Thomson, Russell is holding a charity open day on Sunday. Both yards will be open for two-and-a-half hours and visitors will be treated to a steeplechase fence-building demonstration and a parade of horses at the Tayside venues.
