SO you've got your barbecue and patio area and the flash conservatory was installed a couple of years ago. Now how do you make the neighbours green with envy?

Patrick Colbert thinks he has the answer. Based at Pitmedden Farm in Auchtermuchty, Colbert has become the agent in Scotland for the Canadian Spa Co, manufacturers of what Americans call ''hot tubs'' but we call spa baths.

In this case they are strong moulded plastic units fitted with pumps, temperature controls, filters etc, and all manner of multi-massage and ''monster jet'' gizmos, designed to bubble away all your aches, pains, tensions and stress.

The spas come in a variety of sizes including the six to seven person model with full-sized body form lounger, arm rests and comfortable bucket seats, said to be a favourite with families who love to entertain.

Designed for use in the garden, only very hardy, exhibitionist types would not choose to house their spa bath in a cederwood gazebo with tinted windows and a roof strong enough to cope with a fall of snow.

Total cost is around #12,000 and interested parties can present themselves at Pitmedden Farm, bathing costumes at the ready, for a trial soak.

However, for a much cheaper but no less startling addition to the back garden, how about a designer tattiebogle to keep the birds off your fruit trees? These very traditional-looking scarecrows are five feet tall and hand-made in ''rustic hessian'' at #97 plus P&P.
