A RETIRED couple who loathe football were celebrating yesterday after winning an island holiday to escape coverage of the World Cup.

Former university lecturer Edwin Miller, 59, and his wife Norma, 57, from Sheffield, entered the competition, run by the Hebridean Whisky Liqueur company, to try to escape the hysteria surrounding the summer football extravaganza.

The prize is a week's stay on the Hebridean island of Coll with nothing but peace and tranquillity - and no TV.
