GLASGOW-based Stakis Hotels, which is due to release its interim financial results on Thursday, is expected to announce two key management changes in conjunction with its half-year trading update.

It was widely reported yesterday that Robert Smith, chief executive of Morgan Grenfell Asset Management, was set to become the new chairman of Stakis. Meanwhile, hotels division head Anthony Harris has been tipped to take over as deputy chief executive.

A spokesman for the hotels, casinos and leisure group refused to confirm or deny the reports yesterday, saying only that both men were doing good work for the company. ''All I can really say is that I would keep my eyes open,'' he said.

Smith, who became deputy chairman of Stakis in February, will succeed Richard Cole-Hamilton, the former chief executive of Clydesdale Bank, who will step down shortly after five years in office.

Stakis is expected to show pre-tax profits of #32m for the half-year, compared to #22.2m the previous six months.
