Huntingdon racecourse is bracing itself for a visit from the paparazzi today.

The much-photographed model Emma Noble, fiancee of former Prime Minister John Major's son James, is likely to be in attendance for the Bank Holiday meeting. She is set to join her future in-laws for a fixture which features the Norma Major Maiden Hurdle.

''The whole meeting is in aid of MENCAP and Norma Major is president of MENCAP,'' clerk of the course Hugo Bevan explained yesterday. ''Mrs Major will be here with her husband - all the time he was Prime Minister she was president and they came every year. They only live a mile away and they are enormous supporters of the racecourse.

''I think the whole family are due to come along tomorrow, including their future daughter-in-law.''

qWalter Swinburn opened his Group 1 account for the season on Luca Cumani's Zomaradah in the Oaks d'Italia in Milan yesterday.

Swinburn dictated a modest initial tempo on Zomaradah on a heavy course, before gradually increasing the pace on the Brighton maiden winner. Zomaradah had plenty left at the finish as she strolled clear of the home-trained Bardonecchia. John Dunlop's Fiamma finished fifth.

Swinburn was winning the Italian classic for the fourth time, having previously triumphed on Ivor's Image, Melodist, and Possessive Dancer. He said: ''She gave me a smashing feel and the outcome was never in doubt.''

qThe father and son combination of Francois and Thierry Doumen combined to take the Grand Steeplechase de Paris at Auteuil yesterday with First Gold.
