LOOKING at the General Assembly on TV I was impressed by how suitable the Assembly Hall would be as a permanent home for the Scottish Parliament - right in the middle of the capital and far more dignified than any converted brewery downtown.

Parliament could arrange to be in recess for the one week in the year the General Assembly meets. The Kirk could do with the ''rent'' and the taxpayer would be saved much unnecessary capital expenditure.
