New generation: it was second time around for Stuart Cowie (second right) as he cut the ground for a new gas-fired power station at Boddam near Peterhead yesterday. He also set off the first explosive charge to clear the site when the present power station was built there 25 years ago. This time Cowie brought his three sons - Mark, Dean and Ryan - to witness the event, as Scottish Hydro-Electric chairman Lord Tillyhorn looked on. The company is building a #220m power station to replace a plant near the end of its useful life. The new 1400-megawatt combined cycle gas turbine power station is due to come on stream in the summer of 2000.
