Dark being the operative word as, with stellar accompaniment including Richard Thompson's guitar and John Surman's baritone sax, Collister wraps her husky, lived-in soulfulness around an inspired selection of songs. Tom Waits, Bruce Cockburn and Robert Wyatt are all represented alongside Collister's extraordinarily impassioned reading of Nick Drake's Black Eyed Dog on a set that oozes confidence and maturity.
