A sailor has finally kept his promise of a dance to a young ATS girl - after 54 years. Jack MacLennan, 72, of Inverness, left, met Maisie Martin, right, fleetingly in 1944 when he carried her kitbag up a hill in the town. He invited her to a dance that night, but the sergeants at her billet told him to clear off.
However, as he told the story to a couple at a recent veterans' reunion in Inverness, the woman said: ''That girl was me.''
And so Maisie, of Grangemouth, finally got her dance.
