SOCIAL workers are waiting to see if a colleague who was sacked after failing to monitor a child killer properly wins his appeal before they decide whether to take industrial action in support of him.

Bryan Low, 42, was dismissed by Aberdeen City Council after it was found he had been seeking freelance work without permission. His position had earlier been called into question for not keeping a close enough watch on known paedophile Steven Leisk, who murdered nine-year-old Scott Simpson in Aberdeen last July.

His colleagues had been set to vote on industrial action in an effort to win him back his #25,000-a-year job. But they have now put possible strike action on hold until his appeal has been heard.

Over 100 members of his union, Unison, have passed a motion saying his sacking was unfair, and that Mr Low's employers had been swayed by media coverage of the Scott Simpson case.
