Australian skipper Peter Gilmour, who is representing Japan's Nippon America's Cup Challenge, has won the Cottonfield Cup match racing series in Copenhagen.

Gilmour and his all-Japanese crew, the world champions, would have met the New Zealand America's Cup-winning skipper Russell Coutts in the final, but lack of wind caused a curtailment. Gilmour and Coutts won their semi-finals, against Danes Sten Mohr and Jesper Bank respectively in very light and fickle breezes.

After hours of waiting the organisers sorted out the tie-break. The trophy went to Gilmour, who had a higher score at the end of the qualifying rounds.
