WHILE Neil Baxter's enthusiastic article (Field of dreams, May 19) on the ''new'' Hampden spotlights the stadium's positive aspects, is it not the case that the planned capacity of 52,000 is about 30,000 short of what is ideally needed for a national stadium in a football-daft country like Scotland?

Moreover, won't this shortfall in capacity mean that ''the lifeblood of the game'' (ie, the fans who pour so much money into football) will be gradually disenfranchised from the game, once they discover that it is increasingly difficult for them to buy tickets for the big domestic matches?
