Thousands of pounds in prize money is being offered for enthusiasts who make the journey between Land's End and John O'Groats.

Since the first official

end-to-end trip 120 years ago, thousands have undertaken the 874-mile journey in a variety of transport.

Now #10,000 a year in prize money is being offered by the Land's End and John O'Groats Company Ltd, which owns the two extremities.

From July next year, the firm will hand out four awards of #2500 for the most creative end-to-end journeys without a vehicle, for two and four-wheel vehicles, and for the most unusual trip.

Most of the trips are made to raise money for charity, raising an estimated #1m a year.
