SCOTTISH hockey was mourning the loss yesterday of its only full-time correspondent, Joe Dillon.

Since leaving Honeywell, where he was a computer technician, Mr Dillon, who was 58, had travelled the world reporting the game for some 30 years for The Herald, other publications, and radio.

He had just returned from covering the World Cup in Utrecht, delaying investigation of a heart complaint to do so, when he suffered a heart attack.

He had been in poor health since 1989.

Patrick Joseph Dillon, origin-ally from Ballyclare, in County Antrim, was a player and founder member of Bellshill hockey club, and an honorary member of the Scottish Hockey Union.

He is survived by his wife, Christine, sons John and Paul, and daughter, Claire.
