Troon's ambitions to win the women's first-division title at the first attempt will be scrutinised in Aberdeen today when they visit Richard Irvine Hazlehead, who have already handed Su Ragazzi a defeat but have lost to champions Rucanor Jets.
Troon's only defeat to date has also been at the hands of Jets, although they have lodged an appeal and are still awaiting the deliberations of the Scottish Volleyball Association.
Appropriately for a team which has been making waves in their first season in division one, Troon will have Jenny Ellis, an oceanographer, back in their team today.
''Jenny has been training on board her ship in the North Sea,'' explained coach Vince Krawczyk. ''She has taken a volleyball to work with her and there is a gym on board. Having been out for so long, she will be a bit fresher.''
Krawczyk felt last weekend's 15-5, 15-4, 15-4 win over Beacon Gas Jets was as good as he had seen his team play. To further strengthen his team, Catriona Caves, the former Jets player, has received clearance and will make her debut today.
Jets have a difficult match today against Clydevalley and Su Ragazzi take on Falkirk in what promises to be the most open title race for some years.
In the men's first division, champions City of Glasgow Ragazzi face Falkirk and Kilmarnock travel to Bon Accord.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
