MY old friend Dr David Duff spent a lot of time researching the sinking of HMS Hood and his article duly appeared in The Herald (May 23). Unfortunately the paper attributed it to an unknown person by the name of Dan Duff.
David, being a man of some wit and understanding, would never dream of writing to you himself so I thought I would put the matter straight. You will be glad to learn that some good has come of it. I and all of David's friends now call him Desperate Dan.

Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
