French striker Karim Boukraa yesterday waved good-bye to the financial troubles at Morton and happily headed to the Highlands.
Neale Cooper, the Ross County manager, came to his rescue when he signed Boukraa, who goes straight into the side for the visit to Ayr United.
So, instead of worrying about his next pay packet at Greenock, Boukraa joined the Ross County team bus as it travelled to Ayr, with assistant manager Gordon Chisholm commenting: ''Karim has been training with us this week. We have been looking for a striker and we are delighted to get him.''
County will still be without the injured Frank Escalon, Marc Miler, and Kenny Gilbert, while Ayr United manager Gordon Dalziel will wait until later today before deciding his line-up.
Just three weeks ago striker Brian Crawford was turning out in the Central league for Cumbernauld Juniors when Clyde stepped in to sign him. He has so impressed manager Alan Maitland since then, that he is in the squad to face Falkirk today.
Clyde are also boosted with the return of long-term injury absentee Andy McLay, who has been missed in midfield. However, Jamie Mitchell and Darren Murray face late fitness tests.
Falkirk will be without the suspended Greg Denham as they visit Clyde, with manager Alex Totten remarking: ''They have a big strong side and we will have to compete with them. We have met them twice this season and the games have been even.''
Inverness Caledonian central defender Bobby Mann yesterday had stitches removed from his knee so that he could be included against Airdrie. Manager Steve Paterson commented: ''Bobby is desperate to play and I think he will make it. He is the kind who shrugs off something like that.''
Paterson is looking forward to another chance to cross swords with Airdrie, for the teams have met regularly this season.
He said: ''We know Airdrie play good football and they are a side capable of beating anyone on their day - it should be a good match for the fans as we also like to pass the ball around.''
Airdrie's major injury worries of earlier in the week are clearing up and only David Fernandez and Paul Armstrong are causing concern.
Peter Hetherston, the Raith Rovers manager, has listed an unchanged squad to face Alloa and added: ''This is pay-back time for our supporters who have suffered with us in recent weeks. We want to give them the three points to carry into Christmas.''
Alloa also have an unchanged squad and Terry Christie, their manager, commented: ''Both teams will be desperate to win this one.''
BOOKIE'S VIEW: Raith 6-5, Alloa 11-5, draw 13-5. Ayr 8-11, Ross County 4-1, draw 11-4. Clyde 11-8, Falkirk 6-4, draw 5-2. Inverness CT 8-11, Airdrie 3-1, draw 13-5.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
