The centrepiece of the show is the perfect chance to see a new home at its best, with inspirational ideas from the interiors
The ntl Persimmon show home, the traditional double-fronted six- apartment Roxburgh, will take centre stage at this year's Ideal Home Show Scotland. Styled by House Beautiful, with local designers HQC Interiors, the house will have on show the latest in Internet, entertainment and communication technology, courtesy of communications giants ntl.
Persimmon is out to persuade people that a newly built home is the answer to so many of the problems of modern living. Persimmon has teamed up with ntl to show how the latest developments in technology can answer the needs of the modern home owner. And they're not just talking home entertainment. Currently more than 20% of the UK population is estimated to be working from home, so the developing field of communications technology for the home worker is becoming an important part of everyday lives.
The specially adapted showhome will allow visitors the opportunity to fully appreciate all the comfort and convenience of a new home. As always, visitors will be led via a central walkway through the upper and lower floors of the Roxburgh, which has been recreated amid landscaped gardens.
Garden designer Peter Anslow has called on his 30 years' experience preparing showhome gardens to create something special out of the 27m x 17m plot. ''There are obvious limitations in a showhome garden,'' says Anslow. ''You can't dig a hole, for example, so instead there's lots of structured work, paving, timber decking, pergolas and potted things.'' He's complimentary of local man Bill Peebles and his team at Peebles Landscaping, who have been working with all the locally produced plants for the garden.''
Inside the house, the ground floor features a lounge, separate dining room, breakfast kitchen with utility room, and ground floor WC. The lounge, with Nono retro-style curtain fabric and wallpaper, sofas and stools from the Upholstery Gallery and shaped nickel/glass side tables and display units, is dominated by ntl's 42-inch plasma screen television flush with the wall above the mantel. The dining room has Osborne & Little curtain fabric and wallpaper, hung horizontally, and furniture from the Stag ''Homemaker'' range and from the Upholstery Gallery. The kitchen features Moore's Madison kitchen range, with stainless steel appliances supplied by Whirlpool and laminate flooring by Uniclic.
The upper floor affords the luxury and privacy of a master bedroom with dressing room and en suite bathroom. Osborne & Little wallcoverings and silks by Jab set off the Pavillion Sienna range of bedroom furniture, featuring slat bed and co-ordinated pieces with sandblasted glass detail.
Bedroom two (the ''textures'' room) has solid wood panelled furniture with rope pulls and detail from Oceans Apart and nautical theme jute rope, fringing and fabric as accompaniments.
Bedroom three (the ''retro'' room) aims to attract the teenage girl's attention with its K & K Karma wallpaper and curtains, Liberty horizontal stripe duvet cover and furniture from the Gentle & Boon Scandinavian range.
Bedroom four (the ''cubed'' room) doubles as the hi-tech study, with Stag studio furniture, ntl PC package and the distinctive mural composed of Persimmon's website details. The upstairs bathroom features Nettuno tiles, wallpaper and fabrics by Osborne & Little, and Sweep Copper accessories by Handsome Trimming Co.
After dazzling visitors with its technology, ntl promises to prolong the pleasure for one lucky family, who will win a Bang & Olufsen Beovision TV as part of a free prize draw being held in the showhome throughout the show.
