THE two unbeaten teams in the south clash at Kirkcudbright in what should be the match of the day.

Queen of the South, with their six-game run behind them, take on challengers St Cuthbert Wanderers, who want to forget about their Qualifying Cup reverse two weeks ago.

Saints crashed to Edinburgh City, but the second-top side have gone four south league matches without defeat and have hit 16 goals.

There is also a real tussle likely at Kirkcowan, where league champions Tarff Rovers take on Dalbeattie Star as they build up to next week's Qualifying Cup match that could put them into the Scottish Cup for the third successive year.

The other South League fixtures see Dumfries take on Crichton in a local ''derby'' match, bottom of the league Girvan are at home to Stranraer Athletic, Newton Stewart play Creetown, and Threave Rovers are at home to Annan Athletic.

In the East Premier League, champions Annan Athletic are at home to bottom side Craigroyston and should be able to keep up the pressure on the chasing pack which includes Whitehill Welfare.

Threave Rovers are going well in the league and Qualifying Cup and travel to Civil Service Strollers in confident mood.

Meanwhile, the twice-postponed South of Scotland League Cup final between Newton Stewart and St Cuthbert Wanderers has been scheduled for next Saturday, September 30, at Blairmount Park.
