Badminton
Despite a health scare which had her kept in hospital overnight earlier in the week, former Chinese international Rita Pickering (Dumfries) made her much-anticipated debut in the Yonex Scottish National Championships at Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh last night.
Playing with Scottish international Craig Robertson (Fauldhouse) in the mixed doubles, Rita progressed to the mixed doubles semi-finals with two comfortable victories.Results:

Badminton history was made at the English national championships on Friday when a player was shown a yellow card. The card was brandished at reigning champion and top seed Colin Haughton after his mobile phone went off during his first round match with Chris Dakin.
Haughton's yellow card had no ill effects as the player fought back from 6-7 down when the phone rang to win 15-8, 15-4.
Basketball
Troon Tornadoes bid for a league double over Edinburgh Kings at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr tomorrow. Troon, who upset the Kings on their home court at Portobello in their first league encounter, toppled St Mirren McDonalds in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals in Troon last week.
Kings struggled to overcome Boroughmuir in their cup quarter-final, but will be keen to assert authority over their Ayrshire rivals, whose cadet team travel to Portobello today, for a Scottish Cup quarter-final.
Glasgow d2, who along with Midlothian Bulls are also through to the last four of the senior cup, are the visitors at Linwood tomorrow to play Paisley. The big clash in the Scottish Women's League is at Denny High School tomorrow where Denny Phoenix play Glasgow Rebels.
Cricket
Mike Hussey is to link up with World Cup Scot John Blain at Northants. The English county yesterday moved for the in-form Western Australia opener as their overseas player for next season.
Hussey scored just 350 runs in 11 appearances for Ferguslie two seasons ago before being called-up for the Australian A tourists.

Lacrosse
THE late withdrawal of the Composite North Side, due to team/transport problems, from the inter-regional mixed tournament scheduled at GHK Sports Club, Anniesland, Glasgow tomorrow means that there will only be one match - West versus East. Both include World Cup players. West were beaten 12-4 by East in the women's match last month at the Grange Club, Edinburgh.
Motorsport
Allan McNish will bid to collect the full-set of endurance titles this weekend when he tackles the Daytona 24-hour race behind the wheel of his Risi Competizione Ferrari 333SP.
The 31-year-old from Dumfries, twice second at the gruelling Florida circuit and competing for the only time this year before starting his Formula One test career with Toyota, knows he faces a stiff battle.
Speedway
GLASGOW Tigers are under new ownership, ending weeks of uncertainty for the supporters of the Ashfield-based Premier League club. Speedway fans Stewart Dickson and Alan Dick yesterday clinched a deal to buy out Edinburgh-based businessman Brian Sands' controlling interest.
Squash
Edinburgh's Martin Heath, the world No.4, has been seeded third for the British championships to be played in Manchester on February 21-25. It will be only Heath's second appearance at the event and he is Scotland's main hope in the absence of Peter Nicol.
In the women's event, Tania Bailey (Lincs) is favourite with Edinburgh's Pam Nimmo seeded for the first time, at seventh.
Tennis
ANDREW Murray (Dunblane), winner of both singles and doubles at the Teen Tennis International in Telford last week, has reached the semi-finals of both events at the unofficial 14-and-under World Indoor Championships in France.
Murray, 13, the No.4 singles seed, beat British rival Paul Nicholls (Leics) 6-1, 6-1 while his doubles partner, Andrew Kennaugh (Surrey), beat Tim Neilly (USA) 4-6, 6-1,6-1, but they are in different semis. In their doubles quarter-final they are the only UK survivors.
